Open Question: Losing Weight, Losing Hope?

Posted in Uncategorized at 11:32 am by Yahoo! Answers: Search for

Hey everyone, I've been trying to lose weight but that's not to say I'm not grateful for the weight I am now (119/8 and 5'2"). I have always had a larger muscle built after playing many sports like gymnastics, competitive cheer, soccer, and other track events. I recently graduated college and want to sort of lose some of my college weight gain. I do a lot to keep myself active (ie. trained for a marathon, dance troupes) but I've noticed my eating habits are still the same. Part of me doesn't want to conform to restrictive diets because I still want to be 'happy' in the sense that I can eat a cookie here and there and it won't kill me. But I definitely need to spice things up. After I read this article about your "happy weight" I realized I was a bit over my suggested weight and it sort of brought my spirits down.(http://www.self.com/fitness/nutrition/calculators/happyWeight) Are there any suggestions? Part of me is intimid to try weight-lifting but I know it'd help.

Well first of all i think the name “Happyweight” is korny and unrealistics, because it doesnt define your happiness with your own weight. How do they know what weight you have to be to be happy? I’ve also struggled with this problem most of my life. After being teased in grade school for being overweight, i just worked out non stop. As of now, this is how I maintain a healthy weight: I usually stick to healthy foods, they might get bland but thats why you need a good variety. Chicken and fish can be served in like a million ways so thats a good start. Also, eating in small portions like 6 times a day helps, along with drinking a lot of water, because sometimes you think you’re hungry when in fact you’re just thirsty. Also, i lift heavy weights because i want to get big. But to get toned, you can still lift weights, just lift really light. If you’re struggling to do 10 repetitions of an exercise, its too heavy. do something you can lift maybe 50 times. I’m sure you already know that repetition is the key to getting toned. Also, I allow myself to eat what i want once a week, but never overindulging and stuffing myself. Nowadays, they have healthy AND tasty recipes everywhere if you really want to achieve your goal. and ya know what, you ran a freakin marathon so don’t worry about some website telling you what weight you should be to be happy. BEST of luck!
